Lenses and Lensed Horn Antennas

Lensed horns can produce a much improved gain figure, ideal for materials testing, and can be an alternative to a more bulky reflector antenna. A Lens can be retrofitted to existing horns and are very useful for EMC / HiRF measurement systems.

Lensed Horns Features

  • Lensed horns provide space saving compared to reflector antenna
  • Lower back-scatter and better sidelobe performance than a reflector antenna
  • Our lensed horns are fully weatherproofed for outdoor use
  • Horns can offer a lower profile and be less prone to wind-damage or other environmental factors than a reflector equvalent
  • Lensed horns can provide a high field strength over the desired spot size
  • Lensed horns are ideal for materials testing
  • Also useful for Radar Systems, EMC testing, Point to Point links, Traffic control systems and many others.

Lensed Radomes

Example of Lensed Radome

Q-par Angus has had much experience with the design, fabrication and test of Lensed Radomes.  A Lensed Radome can have many benefits including increased gain, smoother radiation patterns and reduced sidelobes.

Waveguide Horn with Integral Lens

Q-par Angus can provide horns fitted with lenses of our own design, or can retro fit lenses to your existing horn antennas, lenses are especially suitable for Standard Waveguide Horns.

The Horn shown opposite is a standard waveguide horn that has had a Lens fitted internally to provide a higher gain over a defined spot-size.  A protective window has been fitted over the front of the horn aperture.

As this horn was designed for EMC testing it has a custom mounting bracket enabling the easy rotation of the horn on axis.
