Optimal Bandwidth RAM

by Andrew Mackay last modified Tue 15 August 2006 16:07

The design of optimal bandwidth Radar Absorbent Materials (RAM) for civil and defence applications.

  • Radar absorbent materials have low frequency performance that is fundamentally limited by the thickness of the material. Optimal bandwidth materials have minimum reflection phase, for which a number of powerful mathematical techniques can be applied. Dr Andrew Mackay has been responsible for development of the theory of such dispersive structures, giving us access to advanced design techniques.
  • FSS MainRAM may be designed using frequency selective surfaces (FSS), lossy substrates with given dispersive characteristics or purely resistive Jaumann structures with lossless dielectrics. We have optimisation software for the design of Jaumann absorbers which can meet the minimum reflection phase conditions for optimum bandwidth.
