In particular, the company uses CST Microwave Studio, enabling it to analyse and optimise a wide range of antenna, microwave component and filter designs. CST enables the performance of complex models to be predicted, from intricately shaped ridged horn antennas and waveguide components, to low profile dual polar patch elements.

It has been particularly useful in improving the performance of broadband horn antennas, where there is only very limited theoretical information available. Particular success has been achieved with a high power waveguide-based absorption filter. Its construction meant that very little adjustment was possible after manufacture, thus the design had to be accurate and work first time. In practice, the prototype only needed minor modification before the full batch of ten filters was made.  The CST system can exchange files with SolidWorks (our 3D drawing system) and CNC machining files produced directly.
